WHAT IS PHYSICAL THERAPY?

Physical Therapy (PT) is a non-invasive treatment that helps individuals develop, maintain and restore maximum body movement and physical function. Physical Therapy is a vital tool in helping restore a person’s full physical potential. Physical Therapy treatment focuses on the rehabilitation of motor skills, range of motion, strength, balance and coordination. Physical Therapy also teaches preventative measures to patients to help prevent further pain and injury.

WHY CHOOSE PHYSICAL THERAPY?

Physical Therapy (PT) is beneficial for many reasons. Physical Therapists create personalized treatment plans for each patient based on their needs. Physical Therapy helps relieve pain by targeting underlying problems. Physical Therapy also can help patients with chronic pain. In some cases, physical therapy is effective in preventing surgery. Physical Therapy over time can help people experience less pain, move more freely, and restore proper function.

WHAT TYPES OF PHYSICAL THERAPY ARE THERE?

  • Spine Care & Rehabilitation
  • Sports Related Injuries & Conditions
  • Pain Management
  • Post-Surgical Rehabilitation
  • Post MVA (Motor Vehicle Accident) Rehab
  • Work Related Injuries & Evaluations (i.e. FCE’s)

  • and many others…

DO I NEED A DOCTOR/PHYSICIAN REFERRAL TO RECEIVE PHYSICAL THERAPY?

Legally, no. Texas has a direct access policy that allows a patient be seen for 10 days without a referral, but after 15 days a signed referral is needed. Also, some insurance companies require all documentation be signed by a doctor.

CAN I CHOOSE WHERE I WANT TO ATTEND THERAPY?

Yes! The patient can choose where they want to receive therapy. In most cases, the patient is referred to us by their physician, but ultimately the choice is up to the patient.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT AT MY FIRST VISIT?

Unless you filled out and submitted your intake paperwork online, please arrive 20-30 minutes early to your appointment. You will meet with a physical therapist who will perform your initial evaluation. In most cases the therapist will discuss their findings and create a treatment plan during the initial evaluation. The evaluation can last 30 minutes to an hour and a half depending on your injury.

WHAT SHOULD I BRING TO MY FIRST VISIT?

    • A signed prescription (referral) from your referring doctor/physician
  • Your driver’s license or government issued photo ID
  • Your insurance card(s)
  • Your new patient paperwork if you printed it. This paperwork can be found on our website here.
  • If this is a worker’s compensation claim, be sure to bring your claim information:
    1. Adjusters Name
    2. Claim Number
    3. Claim Information

WHAT DO I WEAR?

It depends on your injury. Generally loose fitting, comfortable clothing is best. Keep in mind that during your evaluation your therapist will be assessing your injury, so wear something that they can easily access your injury. You will want to be comfortable during your treatment.

HOW LONG IS EACH SESSION?

The length of session is generally about an hour. It also depends on your injury.

HOW OFTEN WILL I NEED TO COME?

The frequency of your appointments will be decided by your physical therapist and/or your physician. Another factor is your injury. Every injury is different and the severity differs as well.

WHAT WILL MY PAYMENTS BE AND WILL PAYMENT BE REQUIRED AT EACH APPOINTMENT?

We will verify your insurance benefits prior to your appointment. Every insurance plan is different so the benefits are also different. If your plan leaves a co-pay, it will be requested at each appointment.
